Usaly i use citadel but for the space marine i painted today i used a ultramarine blue acrylic, a dark vermillion modeling paint, some stormguard gold citadel paint, leadbelcher citadel paint, black acrylic paint, white acrylic paint, brown model wash, and a base of kantor blue citadel paint.

I could tell that you used Acrylic, since it has kind of a grainy texture. Which isnā€™t necessarily bad, but sometimes they can be harder to work with on smooth resin or plastic models. I tried painting on a dollar tree figure one time, and it looked a little rough, but then again, I was new to painting at the time.

Do you use primer on the model before you started painting? I donā€™t know how well resin works, but usually for my plastic models, I apply a thin layer of primer on the plastic so it can hold the paint on better. I do believe the Citadel paints work pretty well without, but I think they are mostly made for Resin figures though.

Yes, i do use primer on my models, it makes them look nicer and helps paint stick more

Citadel paints are able to stick without primer but many still prime for a base coat or to make them look nicer, i love citadel paints but the only thing i dont enjoy about them is how they arenā€™t very vibrant

Alright, I wasnā€™t sure if you had to for Resin models.

I do own only a single Space marine that my friend let me borrow, so I can make lego replicas. I never have painted on resin before and have been too poor to afford a decent army.

I do know that 40k no longer uses resin printing for their models and instead use injection molding

I think there are some neon and lighter colors of them. Iā€™ve seen many people use kind of a white wash or maybe like a clear coat over top of the paint to not only protect the paint, but also to make it more shiny.

Many of the lighter colors Iā€™ve seen were used to paint glowing effects of weapons, lights, or even burn or scorch marks as well.

Iā€™ve never used Citadel since they were kind of expensive online or at least from the website I saw them on, so I use Testors, which is lower grade, but itā€™s mostly for model cars and such.

I didnā€™t even know that. I know itā€™s much cheaper to use injection molding and I actually thought about saving or investing into an injection mold at some point so mass produce my own minis. All you need to make initially is the mold and thatā€™s about it.

I wanted to get into 40k since my friend was really into it, but I could never afford half of the stuff online. Like one of the biggest titans, you can get is like over $1000, but then again, I currently have a transformer figure thatā€™s worth that now, but I never paid anywhere near that before.

I know 40k is cheaper in the uk cause thats where the models are produced and i recemend you reach out to a discord user named malice because he resin prints 40k minis and sells them for a lower cost

However i will mostly stop collecting 40k later this year and will begin to collect and play a upcoming table top wargame called trench crusade, trench crusade will release later this year and will hopefully be much cheaper than 40k,
