Literally me when I saw that:

All I’ve seen is the mouse cursor and I’m still stoked for this game’s release. Good luck!

Gradient with no hue shifting.

Nice! This looks awesome.

It gets worse.

Gradient with little-to-no/inconsistent dithering.

Praises:

  • Sci fi design
  • Good shape choice

Critiques:

  • Did you use a palette?
  • Lack of dither gradient
  • Looks color-picked
  • Would look much better with a type of outline
  • Lack of proper shading
  • Lack of highlighting

Should I draw a new sprite? I don’t like the look of this one.

  1. It seems to suffer from “pillow shading”, which is a fancy way to say “shading without a defined light source”. Pick an area that you want to cast light from and draw based on that.
  2. I strongly feel like only picking out colors from a given palette would improve it a lot. Also, consider an outline, see what that adds to it!
  3. Instead of going darker and duller in a strangely “shapey” fashion - try dithering. Also- darker colors should be a little more saturated (hue shifting)
  4. I feel like some shine/highlights would make it pop a lot more

Overall you’re on the right track, just some suggestions

It has a bit. This is the third level prototype 2 sprite:

Good shading example I just found.

Yes, actually
I like it, it sticks out more

Yeah, with a cursor, it always needs to pop, else the player might loose sight of it.
