Also he responded because I posted it on the discord, he’s more active there
he @CodeAlpaca could you test out my game?
Screen size is a little small
Unsure what the objective of the game is
glitches with the background clouds
doesn’t feel like a continuous color palette was used
Movement bugs like getting stuck on the sides of walls
i plan to add fullscreen
uuuhhh im unsure, i plan for it to be either a sandbox game or a adventure or a survival horror
origanaly the screen was even smaller allowing one to fit but i made it bigger so theyre broken
what does that mean @CodeAlpaca ?
A color palette is the choice of colors a game chooses to use. Typically with a color palette everything feels like it fits together, but if you pick random colors it often won’t
aaahhh, do you have any examples of this within my game?
I don’t it just doesn’t feel like it matches. Maybe the background compared to the ground, or the items that drop compared to the ground as well.
i tryed to create contrast, how do you think i could make it “match” better?
If any colors are desaturated… desaturate them all… and vice versa… this applies with contrast, value, hue, opacity, etc.
Just stay consistent.
Use Lospec (website) for color palettes and use a pixel editor like pixilart or aseprite if you have money.
lot of people like @DinoDev can give you great advice for artistic principles. My recommendation is to not follow them religiously. Artistic laws are meant to be broken, but in the right way. Don’t break the rule till you understand it.
I agree that artistic rules are meant to be broken (and like you mentioned, not until they are mastered), but pixel art is needs to be more strict on the rules for it to look good.
