Hey, quick question

Hey, I’m back (at least for a bit) and I was wondering if anyone has successfully built an online game. I’m just starting work on a basic online 1v1v1v1 snakes game and I’d love some help or tips from anyone who has experience in the field. tnx

*Also wondering who all is stall active sense I left about 3-4 months ago

Well, I’m not an expert but I think I got some things down. These are some tips that make pvp games fun and something people like for a while.

-Make sure the game has many features, like many game modes, power-ups, skins etc
This gives some enjoyment to the game. Some people may like one game mode while others like another game mode. The same with skins. People have their own way of playing. And as for power ups? It can give advantages to the small little guys. Just to give a fine line and make sure the whole game isn’t filled with pros.
-Make the game fun enough to where you can play it for an hour or two. Don’t make it to addicting or to boring.
With it being to boring, not many people will play and games may just be empty And if it is to addicting, it could also ruin the game.
-Add an event once and a while to keep things going and players not bored of the same thing.
Make a balance of fun and competition. You don’t want people to be very competitive. This is something crucial. Don’t add to many events, and don’t to little. I would say have an event every month or two, or have a certain amount of events each year. Also bring back old events once and a while. If you want to, you can have a loop.

With the coding portion of it, I’m going to be honest, I never experimented with the online settings. Personally I think you should go to @CrimsonBlackGames . He had an online event with Starblast III. I’d say he and @grazer are your best people to go to for that topic.

I have been here for quite a bit and I still remember you. I’ve been active for quite a while.

I’m still here if you remember me.

Heck yah I remember y’all. I was just curious how the community has changed sense I’ve been gone. also heres a link if anyone wants to try out the game as is https://flowlab.io/game/play/1270339

Edit: Also how are your games coming.

@“my_name (<_>)” meh. The community hasn’t changed much. I didn’t notice any changes after a 1-2 month break. Just some new people came, other left, and others went in hiding.

I cannot play your game right now because of the location I am in. I will check it out in about 3 or 4 hours from now.

I have been quite busy making a game I’m making with a few people. That is why I went silent for a bit. (Along with some other reasons) We are in the planning part right now. We do not have a lot in the game. We just have a gallery of images and pages of lore and ideas.

How is that 8-bit ninja game?

I got angry at that one so I’ve put it on hold. I’ll definitely finish it later. For now I’m experimenting with this concept and might try to turn it into a full size game or I might keep it as a small concept game. I don’t know yet.

Just played the game. Very good progress so far! I like how you have a trail as you move. Wish it would look more connectable instead of just a plus sign but I think that you will cover that at some point as you make this game.

One thing I would like to mention is to increase the tick speed by 1 or 2. It felt a little slow while I played it.

Reminds me a little of slither.io. I miss that game XD.

Yah I’m working on having the trail follow you, turns out thats a lot harder than now would think.
