Idk if this would count as a spoiler, but it’s definitely a lore dump
So Oddessay actually doesn’t take place in a fantasy setting. Rather, it’s the outcome of a doomsday-type natural disaster that’s like the flood in Noah’s Ark, where the species who didn’t find shelter in time where decimated.
Like in Noah’s Ark, the flood was caused by God (which is Memento Mori in Oddessay) as a consequence. Every few centuries or so, Memento causes a event that they dub as “the Rapture”, where he erases all life to start new life, and so the creatures of that time don’t end up destroying themselves.
Anyways, the flood wiped out most of humanity, with the only remaining ones living on the mountains. Not only that, but most land was now flooded.
After that Rapture, Memento started to make the new life to replace humanity, and also made some changes to the world in hopes of avoiding the destruction humanity caused. These changes are what make Oddessay seem like a fantasy story.
But not all humans were killed in the rapture, which therefore caused the human population to resurface to a good number, and is the reason why Ivy even exist.
In a nutshell, the reason why the wildlife of Oddessay looks a little strange is because Mori was feeling a bit creative.
