X and Y are referring to the axis’ of the 2Dimensional plane, where X equals longitude (east to west/left to right) and Y equals latitude (north to south/up to down). Does that make sense?

Except that for some reason in Flowlab, at least when it comes to velocity, the Y variables are inverse (-y goes up instead of down). I’m assuming that was based on what I call “aircraft mechanics” (where pushing forward / up makes the aircraft dive towards the ground, and vice versa).

Which does sort of make sense if you’re thinking of rotational velocity in terms of a 360 degree clockwise wheel (changing a 90 degree angle to a 135 degree angle will point you downwards, not up).
