Lol naw, these Demons are simply known as Jaket’ll and are very unrelated.

I did like the lore of those, It got me thinking, that’s for sure. especially with the whole “secret society” thing.

Yeah, I really like trying to keep all the lore kind of secret and mysterious, but I also want to just blurt everything out and explain everything at once lol

Here’s a little excerpt about the two of the four Misfortunes, The Entertainer and Eos(Daughter of Darkness)
This excerpt is a little dark in some aspects, so you know, warning(For blood).

Excerpt

Prologue
Eos

Dark matter dripped from the stone ceiling onto the cold, dead stone below. Black, inky veins crawled across the walls and surroundings. The horrid presence of death haunted the still air. Ominous, black smoky figures walked the halls, trailing black blood behind them. Their bodies moved stiffly and lifelessly, without any purpose. The remains of victims, reanimated by the dark life that flowed through the veins across the cavern.
Eos walked silently, blood stained her jet black hair. The blood was not from death or injury, only someone she had to be, a person she used to be. It felt like a breath of relief when she could be her true self again. She envied the day she would never have to pretend anymore.
She adjusted her body, moving sideways as a lost victim mindlessly hobbled past her. It didn’t seem to pay any mind to her much at all. Her mouth tilted in a grimace. Eos was never much a fan of how The Entertainer treated her victims, but she hungered for a sustenance that required much sacrifice.
There was finally the opening in the cavern hall that she had been searching for. She turned in, and froze for a moment.
The cavern was small, nothing much to decorate it but a stone throne at the opposite end. Multi-colored, shattered glass littered the edges of the cavern, sparkling with an intense glow. The back cavern wall had a carving of a simple star. A black, blood-like liquid dripped from the crevices along the star.
Eos had seen the cavern dedicated to The Entertainer before. It had been there ever since the Recreation, a horrid event if Eos did say so. The cavern was not what had caused Eos’s surprise. Standing in the center of the room, back turned toward Eos, was a slim woman in a tattered red dress with mid-length black hair. The woman lifted a skeletal arm, a mouse caught in its claws. Tilting her head, it revealed a large mouth with sharp teeth, a long tongue rising up. Eos did not look away as it swallowed the creature.
The woman turned quickly, her eyes a nightly black. Both arms and legs were nothing but skeletal remains. The mouth twisted into a long smile, teeth glinting red,”Why…there you are, Daughter!”
“I have asked you countless times not to call me that, Entertainer,”Eos stepped forward,”Why are you in…this form?”
“Oh, no reason in particular, I have only parted with my instrument for a moment. I simply can not stand being without it!”She pulled at locks of black hair.
“Why are you without your staff? I thought you never left it behind, or with anyone,”She didn’t believe she had ever seen The Entertainer without her staff.
“I only wished to test my own limits. How long could I maintain my form without it? Of course, I still withhold all my power, I simply can not change my host’s form any longer,”The Entertainer brushed past Eos,”But this is not the point of this, is it though?”
“No…it is not,”Eos felt tempted to test if The Entertainer had truly maintained all of her power still. She could not tamper her temptation to best The Entertainer. It had taunted her all her life.
The two walked beside each other, Eos only a step or two behind. The Entertainer seemed to be on the verge of giddy laughter. Her eyes and smile were wide, as always, but radiated pure and utter joy. Usually her joy was not found in just causes.
“I must ask, Entertainer,”Eos began,”Why have you asked me to join you down here? You told me it was very important and…how was it you put it?..’Simply spectacular’?”
“Why, it is simply spectacular! I just know it will put a smile on your face! You really should think of wearing one every once in a while, you look like a sad lamb without it,”The Entertainer chuckled at her own joke.
Eos was not as amused,”I wear one enough in my facade. My face always throbs from the effort.”
The Entertainer clicked her tongue distastefully,”I suppose I’ll just have to pick up the slack, won’t I, Daughter?”
Eos stopped, fists clenching,”For the love of all that is in darkness! May you stop referring to me by such a name!”
The Entertainer only laughed delightfully, perfectly amused by Eos’s shout,”Oh come on, dearie! You are called The Daughter of Darkness! Some even call me the Mother of The Misfortunes! Rather odd though, isn’t it? Both of us, in our own ways, are daughters of darkness. I was created, you were reborn. So we’re more sisters, aren’t we? Oh! Would you prefer that…sister?”
Eos threw up her arms, grunting in disgust. She marched ahead of The Entertainer who giggled as she followed suit.
The shadows around the cavern all dragged in and darkened around Eos. It was an unconscious effect. It only ignored her, the way the shadows around her seemed to imitate her. Her own shadow seemed to want to talk to her at times! She only hoped it was an illusion, to think her shadow was actually an entity, with her at all times, only bothered her.
The Entertainer seemed to catch sight of the shift,”Someone’s a little upset, aren’t they?”Her smile only seemed to tighten.
Eos couldn’t keep her calm, she faced The Entertainer swiftly,“You are insufferable and an intolerant aspect of my life! An utmost annoyance to me! Day in and night out you’re always there! Laughing and smiling and teasing!”She pointed a sharp finger at The Entertainer,”Do you ever understand that?! When all comes to an end, you will hopefully only be an annoying pest in the back of my memories! You may as well have stayed in Perrinform!”
The Entertainer never dropped her smile, but her eyes darkened, and shoulders rose. A drop of blood leaked from her lip, rolling down her chin and dripping onto the red dress, making a dark stain on the collar. Eos could barely stop herself from stepping back, only slightly sliding her foot backwards. Her mistake hung clear in the silent air between the two. The silence was enough to make Eos want to claw her own face off and yank out her hair.
“Madame…I only mea-”
The Entertainer’s form imploded on itself, a guttural screech slicing through the air. Blood spilled and splattered the ground in front of her, a few dotting Eos’s dress. The form morphed into a dark creature. Her legs were tall and twisted, arms just the same. Its eyes were now red dripping holes, but its mouth was a melted, red opening sliced across its face. An open wound in its small chest showed a still beating heart. The creature twitched dramatically and red dripped from its chest wound to the ground.
Jaket’ll, ran through her mind.
Eos forced her body to paralyze itself, not daring to move as The Entertainer brought down its terrifying face down to her level.
“I MUST SAY, EOS. I WAS EXPECTING A BIT MORE RESPECT FROM YOU, ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU WOULD STILL BE IN THAT FORSAKEN PRISON IF IT WASN’T FOR ME! I BELIEVE YOU OWE ME YOUR FREEDOM! I AM ABOVE YOU IN THIS HIERARCHY AND YOU WILL KNOW YOUR OWN PLACE!”
The creature spat ugly dark flem in Eos’s face, but she didn’t dare attempt to wipe it away, only speaking to say,”Of course, Entertainer. I…I forgot my manners.”
How it twisted her chest to say such meek words. It made her want to hurl and scream.
With another shriek, and blink of an eye moment, The Entertainer morphed back into the skeletal form she had once been in. Sticky blood now stained the bones and her hair. A smile still stood on her face, however small it now was.
“Now, I do hope that never must happen again. I believe I lost a bit of control over myself. What an interesting reaction…without my staff…that transformation was quite the discomfort, you know,”She brushed some lint off her dress, eyes watching Eos carefully,”You do understand your lesson?”
Eos nodded, head tilted downward. The Entertainer’s smile widened a bit more, joy coming back to her eyes,”I did hope so. What you told me was rather rude, and I sure hate it when people treat me as if I was nothing.”
Eos wanted nothing more than to spit right in The Entertainer’s disgusting grin, but she only swallowed her pride and followed her as she continued down the hallway swiftly.
For a moment, there was nothing much more but silence. The only sound their feet on the stone. Another melody joined as The Entertainer whistled an unrecognizable tune. It sounded rather joyous, almost humorous. The Entertainer even paused to laugh, as if a funny lyric had just been sung. Eos was almost tempted to ask what it was, the song, but kept her mouth shut, not wishing to disturb the quiet peace.
The Entertainer turned at what was probably an entrance in the wall. It was covered in dark veins. She turned to Eos and nodded once, waving a hand at the veins. Eos took a step forward, lifting out her arms as if to grab the shadows around her. The veins lowered themselves and bent away from the opening, revealing a dimly lit room within.
Inside, the stone seemed to have a silver glow to it. A bronze pedestal stood in the center, a stone book atop it. A wooden box studded with jewels lay on the stone book. It seemed wildly out of place. The wall was carved with the figure of a half robotic woman. A top hat rested on her head.
“Is this the shrine to The Seer?”Eos asked, looking around the small room.
“Yes, it is,”The Entertainer scooped up the box, presenting it in front of Eos,”I found this tucked away in the library. It was behind an old book of Post-Recreation history. Quite the find if I do say so myself!”
Eos narrowed her eyes,”It’s just a box.”
The Entertainer huffed, her shoulders slouching a bit,”It is not the box I am speaking of! What is inside it is what truly matters! I just know you will be thrilled to see it!”She added,”Maybe I’ll even earn a grin.”
Eos sighed,”I’m sure whatever it is you’ve found, it is much less amazing as you are making it up to be.”
In a quick, seamless movement, The Entertainer sidled up against Eos,”Now that wasn’t very nice, now was it?”
Hesitating, Eos apologized,”Deepest apologies, Entertainer. I was simply trying not to get my hopes up,”A lie, and The Entertainer knew it, tapping Eos’s nose with a skeletal finger, but she only smiled and returned to her position in front of her.
She flicked the lid of the box open with her thumbs. She reached one skeletal hand inside and grasped the object inside, holding it out in front of Eos, who’s eyes lit up.
“Was I correct in my prediction, Daughter?”The Entertainer leaned her head closer.
Eos couldn’t even be mad at the name, she only grinned, almost as wide as The Entertainer,”The Heart of Seraphil will beat its last…”
“…And we will rule in its ruins.”
The Entertainer’s cackles rang through the halls.

For a little context,
The Misfortunes are a group of four people who serve under Wen’kallon, Goddess of Shadow and Void, Creator of the Wanderers. They joined with Wen’kallon in the quest to destroy The First People and the world they had created. They were imprisoned in Perrinform after The Recreation.
The Entertainer, Eos(Daughter of Darkness), Sinuos(One of Demonity, and Grymm(Bringer of Destruction) are their names.
The Entertainer is an entity created by Wen’kallon. Some call her the first Jaket’ll.
Eos, Sinuos, and Grymm were all First People who turned against them after the war against The First People and Wanderers, mostly in revenge.
For what acts? It is not quite known, but what could turn people into such twisted creatures?

Grymm(Bringer of Destruction)
One of the four Misfortunes. He was one of The First People and fought on the side of the Wanderers during The Light’s War(A war between the Wanderers and The First People). During the war, he was blinded and his wife, a Wanderer was killed. Wen’kallon came to him, offering revenge and possibly a chance for his wife to live again. She gave him a scythe that could destroy any soul with a touch as well as a cute hearing.
His blade is the one that nearly killed Elsakra The Seer.
Along with the other Misfortunes and Wen’kallon, he was imprisoned in Perrinform.
The only way to break his prison is the blood of a Wanderer mixed with the blood of a half-Human Faerie.
His name before becoming a Misfortune was Epsilon.

But they are clearly mistaken

Death is much better
Compared to what you can do

I do not see why
You think this will fix anything…"

where can I read the heart of seraphil?

It’s still a work in progress…(I only have the first few chapters of each Path written). I’ll try releasing them as I continue to write. Just know it’s separated into three story lines, each one representing one of the Three Paths.

Here’s some stuff from the first two chapters of the Path of the Tower

Prologue-Chapter 1 of The Heart of Seraphil: Life and Creation

Prologue
Mirre & Willow

Mirre woke up, surprised by the loud jolt beside her head. Jolting up, she lost balance and fell backward on the stool she had fallen asleep on, landing hard on her back. Her head hit the hard, wooden floor, even bouncing from the force.
There was the sound of laughter, and a hand came down, grasping her own and lifting her up to a sitting position as she rubbed the back of her head.
“If I hadn’t known you were going to jump like that, I would have just used one of Kiran’s elixirs,”Willow’s voice said, laughing a little.
Mirre blinked open her eyes, looking into her friend’s. She was kneeling on her knees in front of her. Yellow stars shone brightly in her eyes, and dark curly hair circumferenced her head.
“Ugh…did I fall asleep?”Mirre asked, looking up at the glowing shapes that hung from the tall ceiling.
“Apparently. Why’re you pulling an all-nighter for anyways? The Demon issue’s over with, that prince guy will take care of it or something. There shouldn’t be much to worry about.”
Sighing, Mirre stood up, Willow following her movements. Her vision blurred for a moment, and she steadied against the wood working table she’d been at. Half of a sword lay on the table, a mess of molten metal dripping off the sides onto the floor. She put a hand up to her face and felt a dried up glob of it on her skin. Wiping it away, she explained,”Queen Madame Gondola said that war with Frendin may be approachable, so we need to load up on materials. I have to make more arsenal for their military.”
Willow scoffed, folding her arms and leaning on the table,”This has to do with whatever Quinten was doing right? Or…or maybe that new Juah that just arrived?”
Mirre, forgetting to answer Willow’s question, looked down behind her at the long array of worktables filling up the space. After about six tables, all next to many other rows, there was a black curtain cutting off the adjourning space. The walls were covered in large gears and steam came out from tubes lining the wall. She looked back at the metal mess, and lifted up her hand. The molten metal began to melt upwards, creeping up off the floor and table. Willow stood back, watching. Mirre folded her hand into a fist and the mass rolled into a sphere. Clutching her fist tighter, the molten mass solidified and it dropped to the table with a hard clunk!
Willow pushed up the bronze goggles on her head a little higher,”Well, that doesn’t quite look like a weapon to me.”
Mirre brushed a hand through her short, silver hair,”It isn’t supposed to be. I don’t think I have the focus right now to even make anything, more less a sword. I think I’m going to go take a nap in the Time and Space Coven. At least then there aren’t various experiments that may or may not explode.”
“That is Kiran’s doing! Not me, for the record!”Willow pointed out.
Mirre yawned,”Keep telling yourself that,”Willow made a good show of looking
offended,”I’m going to go.”
“Alright…,¨Mirre felt Willow ¨stealthily¨ sneak something into the pocket of ehr skirt. She pretended not to notice, and walked toward the spiraling, glass staircase that floated, suspended in the air. The Grand Staircase was given its name for a reason. As she took the steps down, she pulled out the object in her pocket. It was a hairpin made of polished wood shaped like a flower. She tapped a finger on the circular center and it pressed down like a button. The petals were pushed out on wooden rods, spinning in circles and a chime tune began. It lasted only a few seconds before it fell silent, pulling back in.
A small smile on her face, Mirre pulled back her bangs and slipped the clip on.

Willow yawned, pulling herself off of her small bed tucked into the corner of her room. The room was plain, with only a bed and a desk with a few small, unfinished projects laying on it. She only came in here to sleep and work on more secretive projects.
She pulled on her usual waistcoat and brushed through her messy curls. Sitting on her desk was her pair of goggles, and she pulled them up over head. They sat perfectly cushioned on the mess of hair on her head. The last thing she did was pull her tall boots over her feet.
She turned to the wooden door, pushing it out onto the catwalk. Her boots clanged against the metal. The door slipped closed behind her and she slid over to the metal ladder. Losing herself for a moment, she tried to slide down the bars, but stopped herself after only a few feet when her hands began to scream. She pulled back one of her hands, throbbing lightly, a few white marks had appeared over her palm, but they shouldn’t blister.
Willow looked over the array of neat rows and columns of worktables. They contrasted greatly with the mess of metals, wooden projects, sawdust, and copper wires covering the tabletops and floor. She looked over at the table where Mirre’s unfinished sword had been, and was surprised to see it completely empty. The sphere of metal and the half sword was all gone. Mirre must have arrived early and cleaned up the mess. She hoped she liked the hair pin she made for her.
She turned to the tall dark curtain blocking off the other half of the floor. Pushing through it, she looked into the dark room. It was full of metal tables topped with glass vials, and tubes. Multi-colored steam floated just over the floor and the glowing liquid gave the room a magical atmosphere. The walls were filled with shelves full of elixirs, remedies and tinctures.
Kiran stood over one table, filling up a syringe with a green liquid. He wore a short top hat and goggles covered his eyes beneath shaggy, dirty blonde hair. Willow quietly sauntered up behind him as he lifted the syringe up over a bottle of light blue liquid.
Willow jumped up at his side shouting,”What are you making?!”
Gasping, Kiran jumped up, his fingers squeezing down on the syringe and all of the liquid slipped out into the bottle. Green steam immediately began pouring out from it and Kiran, pushing Willow out of the way, grabbed the bottle, and threw it high up into the air. Before any liquid could drip right out of it, as Willow had expected to happen, the bottle imploded into a small mass of green and blue fire.
Kiran whirled around to face Willow, waving around his large, leather gloves in her face,”Wh…wh-wh…why?!”
Willow giggled despite Kiran’s scowl,”I was just interested in whatever…thing it was you were making. Fire bombs?”
Kiran pulled a gloved hand over his face,”No…it was a remedy that eats away at infected wounds.”
“And that relates to fire…how?”
He sighed,”Along with eating away, it also burns flesh to burn away any leftover bacteria and hopefully prevent any other infections since if the muscle is burnt, it will block out any infections and-”
“I’ve got it. Wasn’t really that interested in the first place.”
“Of course you don’t. Agh! Do you have any idea how long it took me to prepare that solution? Five days. Five. Days! Now I’ll have to restart!”
Willow, disinterested in Kiran’s ranting, looked around the room, Mirre didn’t seem to be anywhere in there. She looked back at Kiran who was leaning on the table.
“Say, Kiran,”She began,”Do you know where Mirre is at all?”
“Mirre? Oh, yeah she’s uh…she’s…,”A bewildered look passed over his face,”I…I’m sorry what did you say?”
“Pay attention, much? I asked, where is Mirre?”
“Is that a Juah?”
Willow gaped,¨Are you stupid, Kiran? You didn’t hit your head at all did you? You talked with her yesterday!¨
Kiran stood up straighter, tilting his head and raising a brow,¨Willow…who is Mirre?¨

Chapter 1
Sean

¨Haven’t I already told you two enough! We have no work for street rats! No less Majicka! Now shoo! Off you go!¨Ms. Graves threw up her arms, and rather harshly, pushed both Sean Felix out onto the sidewalk. She slammed the glass door shut, the doorbell ringing loudly.
Sean sighed, folding his arms,¨I told you she would say that again.¨
Felix shrugged, his red hair flowing lightly in the sea breezy air,¨I thought it´d be worth a try. She seems a lot nicer from a far…¨
¨But clearly her standards get in the way of politeness. I mean, don´t you think she could have been just a little more nicer in wording?¨Sean pushed up his orange-tinted sunglasses higher on his yellow hair.
Felix nodded, looking up at the sun, which was nearly center high,¨What time is it?¨
Sean turned to the flower shop the woman had kicked them out of, he pressed his face to the glass gazing in at the wooden clock that stood on the wall inside,¨Um…about eleven-thirty?¨
¨Hm…how much we´d make?¨Felix asked, pulling out a pink flower from one of the various barrels standing outside the glass windows.
Sean reached into the pockets of his brown jacket, pulling out the Moynera coins they had earned. He counted it with his fingers, adding everything up,¨I have about four Moynera.¨
Felix looked over his shoulder at the pile of coppers in his palm,¨That´s enough to grab something to eat for lunch, maybe get something over at Jessica´s.¨
Ms. Graves came bustling out of the glass door again, waving a fist in the air,¨I told you two to go! Now stop loitering on my sidewalk and get out! Before I send both your hides to Queen Adelaide herself!¨
Sean and Felix took off sprinting, Felix even pushed the flower behind his ear. They ducked around pedestrians, making apologies as they bumped into a few. It was the mid-day rush, and the streets were full of people, even the stone-paved roads meant for carriages. Men pulling carriages shouted at people and ran through fast, as if there weren´t people in the way.
As they rushed down mainstreet, the endless line of shops died down to reveal a long slope down to the Leatherback Sea shore. The slope was steep and blocked by a metal fence, breaking in areas to give access to wooden steps down to the pier. The pier was full of docked boats, some fisherman, and some Sea Demon hunters. You could always spot out the ships of hunters, they tended to have metal plating on the hull and scratch marks up and down the wood. Boardwalk also began, elevated slightly above and away from the docks, it curved around Hendrixson.
They passed by a group of men, some wore metal plating on their shoulders, and scars shone on a lot of them. Their hair was dirty, and they all carried sharp harpoons stained with black, oily blood slung across their backs. Sea Demon hunters.
Despite their rough look, the men were all laughing and conversing joyfully. Gossiping, even. Sean could only catch a few parts as he and Sean slipped by. They seemed to be talking about other boats and crews that Sean didn´t recognize.
As they left the hunters behind, Felix said,¨I always hate it when the hunters come back from trips.¨
¨Why´s that?¨Sean asked.
¨People go crazy for the stuff they collect. People buy Sea Demon blood to light their gaslights! Blood! And don´t forget the weirdos who try to sell bones and eyes and…ugh!¨Felix shuddered,¨I get that the Sea Demons are bad and all…but it’s just so…disgusting.¨
Sean nodded, he remembered when Zane had brought home a jar of Sea Demon blood for them to light lanterns with, since we almost never had the oil necessary to do so.
Boardwalk and the docks soon disappeared, returning back to the line of shops. They stopped in front of a building with a hand painted sign reading, Julia’s Diner. A gold and mauve awning hung over the door and windows. Sean pushed through the door, followed by Felix. The diner was small, having only about a dozen tables, but enough to fit about fifty or so people. Despite the mid-day rush, the diner was only about half-full of people. There was a small opening in the wall into the kitchen. The smell of coffee and scones wafted through the room.
Sean and Felix took seats opposite each other in a red booth, waiting eagerly for their waitress to come.
As they sifted through the menu, Sean had to carefully calculate what exactly the two of them could afford with the little coin they had made. After a while, he let Felix look through, and began gazing around the room, losing track of time for a moment.
He realized he was staring at a young girl at the table beside them. She was sitting backwards in her chair, and her small head tilted to the side, auburn braids hanging in the air. Sean uncomfortably looked away, after waving awkwardly.
He glanced back and saw the girl tugging on who he presumed to be her mother’s sleeve. A small moment of panic wafted through him, which he batted down quickly with reason. The girl was only curious and confused, that was all.
Jessica appeared in front of them, blocking the girl, speaking unenthusiastically, ¨Good afternoon, what may I-¨She looked down, noticing who it was,¨Oh. What are you two doing here?¨
¨We´re just here for some breaded mushrooms,¨Felix answered,¨Decided to stop by here, give a friendly hello and all.¨
Jessica frowned, she was always in a bad mood whenever she was at the diner,¨Alright, so that´s…one order of breaded mushrooms?¨She jotted it down on the paper in her hand. Her dark hair was set in a long braid down over her shoulder, which she pushed back behind her shoulder before saying,¨You better not cause any trouble now either.¨
She didn´t wait for a reply as she walked away to another table. The girl was still staring at him, and Sean could only avoid looking back.
Felix noticed his behavior,¨Hey Sean what´s…,¨He looked over and saw the girl. He waved, but his smile tilted downward,¨Kid saw you, didn’t she?¨
¨She´s only curious, I just wish she didn´t have to stare so hard,¨He noticed the girl tugging on her mother’s sleeve again. This time the mother turned, with a stern,¨What is it?¨
The girl pointed and the mother turned. Her eyes widened as Sean made eye contact for a second, before looking away quickly. Although he could see the mother´s discomfort, she only told her daughter to stop staring and turned away.
¨Well…,¨Felix began,¨It could have gone worse.¨
¨I can name a few times…,¨Sean grumbled.
Felix laughed, although it didn’t reach is eyes,¨Yeah…I suppose so.¨
It was a few minutes before Jessica came back, a plate of steaming mushrooms in her hand. She slid it onto the table,¨One order of breaded mushrooms. That’s three Moynera.¨
¨The menu only says two!¨Felix protested.
¨Yeah? Well I pay the rent, so hand it over,¨She held out her dark palm.
¨Zane pays it too,¨Felix added as Sean dropped three coins into her hand.
¨Zane gambles half of his income away. I´d switch him if I didn´t love him!¨ Jessica´s hand closed in a fist around the coins, pushing them into the pocket of her dress.
¨Has he said anything about joining a Sea Demon ship? We saw a crew come in today. He always gets excited about it when they come in,¨Sean asked, popping a mushroom in his mouth.
Jessica sighed,¨He was going on about it the whole walk to work. Even if it did pay enough, I still wouldn’t let him go! I´m not letting him go risk his hide for a couple drops of Sea Demon blood! I swear-¨
¨Waittress!¨A woman from another booth shouted,¨You forgot the ice in my tea!¨
Jessica grumbled something, then shouted sharply¨Well, I didn’t make it! Go complain to the cook!¨
¨Maybe you should just-¨
She interrupted Felix,¨Frankly, I don’t care what these people have to say. That woman comes in every BegunningsDay, and, somehow, she hasn’t realized that,¨She raised her voice loud enough for the whole diner to hear,¨We don´t have ice here!¨
A few people looked over and stared, but most only jumped a bit, not paying any mind. Sean noticed a middle-aged woman from behind the opening in the wall to the kitchen. She was snapping her fingers, an impatient look on her face, and then resorted to clapping loudly. The woman didn’t yell or shout though.
¨Um…,¨Sean pointed behind Jessica,¨I think Julia wants you.¨
She furrowed her brows, exhaling. She turned around,¨Give me a moment Julia!¨
¨Isn’t she-¨
¨Yes, I know she can´t hear me,¨She cut him off,¨I´ll see you two later. And you better leave a tip!¨
She walked away, disappearing into the kitchen. Felix turned to Shawn, stuffing another mushroom in his mouth,¨So…are we leaving a tip?¨
¨I mean…we basically already did, with that extra coin. But I think I´d rather not make Jessica any more frustrated than she already is.¨
Felix leaned back,¨She´s always frustrated.¨
¨Which is why we shouldn´t make it worse on ourselves,¨Sean pulled out the last coin slapping it onto the table,¨Well…that´s the last of our morning income…¨
Felix frowned at the coin,¨I wish there were more places to work. There´s so many shops and houses around Hendrixson and yet no one seems to be looking for any sort of work!¨
Sean knew very well that it wasn’t necessarily true. Most people were always happy to have help and provide work, it only depended on who it was. It was certainly, at least partly, his fault that many people turned them away. Felix knew it too, but he was too nice to ever point it out.
As they finished the last of the mushrooms, he looked out the window, watching as the rush of people slowly died down to a much calmer procession. After a moment, Sean stood, placing his hands on the table,”Alright, I think we can get out of here now. How about we check out the docks and look for work there? There’s almost always something happening out there.”
Felix nodded eagerly,”Sounds good,”He turned toward where Jessica was, serving a table,”We’ll see you tonight, Jess!”
“Don’t call me Jess!”Was the only reply they got as the two stepped out into the street, snickering at each other.
Outside, the sun had already passed its peak, leaving them probably only a few hours to find other jobs for Moynera. There were only a few people out on the streets now, mostly just people rushing back to their work or homes after midday.
The two headed back the way they had come, taking the steps down to the dock once it entered their view. The docks were full of groups of men. Some fishermen, but there were a lot more Sea Demon hunters that day. There were a few groups standing around barrels playing card games like Queen’s Land and Jewels. They were the kinds of games Zane would gamble away his earnings on.
Sean whispered to Felix,”I’ll have you do the talking, today. Try to get the least messy job, but highest paying.”
“I can’t promise that,”Felix said, but headed off towards a yellow haired woman standing out on the docks. She had a red scarf wrapped around her waist and a hat with a feather sticking out of it. There was a long harpoon strapped across her back too, definitely a hunter.
He watched as Felix approached the woman. She seemed very energetic, pointing and talking with her hands as she spoke with him. After a few minutes, Felix came running back.
“That woman over there…think she said she was Captain North? She said she’d give us two Moynera if we sort her storage room. Even offered three if we did a really good job!”
Sean didn’t hesitate, patting Felix on the back,”Sounds like a job!”
The two jogged back over to the woman. Felix nodded at her and she grinned, ”Well, well! I must thank the both of you! Sorting everything always takes so long, and the boys never help so I always end up doing it myself!”She rolled her eyes, before walking away, gesturing for them to follow,”I’ll show you the ship.”
The three walked down the docks, Captain North waved at a few of the men, most seemed to have recognized her. They turned onto one dock with a large, metal-plated ship tied down to it. The metal was covered in various scratches and you could tell where damaged ship parts had been repaired or replaced.
On the dock, a man, not quite old enough to be middle-aged, leaned against a dock post, sleeping. He wore a round hat that tipped over his eyes, dark hair peeked out from under it. There was a bright silver ring on his finger.
North looked down at the man, and sighed. Swiftly, she brought her foot back and kicked the sleeping man in the leg,”Get up, Rodney!”
He yelped, jumping as he pushed his hat up on his head,”What?! What is it?!”
“I’d prefer you not sleep on my dock, it rather ruins the image of my ship, don’t you think?”She tilted her head.
Rodney yawned, stabilizing himself with a hand on the pole, and stood up,”Well apologies, Miss North. Thought maybe I’d get a pass, being a crewman and all.”
North only sniffed,”Just get on with ya! If you’re looking for the rest of them, just go up on Main Street, I’m sure you’ll find them trashing the nearest pub. Wish I could be! But I have a ship to handle. Maybe you’d like to lend a helping hand?”
Rodney nodded, but it was fairly loose and daze-like. Waving his hand he said,”Guess I’m off then…,”His eyes met Sean’s and he paused. Rodney looked back at North and whispered, just loud enough that anyone close could hear, including Sean and Felix,”I knew you wanted help with storage…but Majicka help? Not sure that’d be the best idea, especially with that ship from Ariu-”
“Oh shove a cork in your throat, won’t ya? Now off! Off you go!”North pointed away and Rodney, grumbling something, walked off.
As North stepped onto the gangway, Sean could hear Rodney shout something, confused. He looked over and saw the man looking at his hand, the ring was gone from it, although he only grumbled something else and stormed off. North laughed quietly.
“What is it?”Felix asked.
She held up her hand, not looking back. In between her index and middle finger was the ring,”Pays to have a slick hand, doesn’t it?”
Felix whistled as the two followed the captain up the gangway onto the ship floor. The wooden floorboards seemed to be in poor shape. There were scratches, chips, and tears along the wood. There were a few dark stains scattered about it too. Over to the back of the ship, was an elevated platform with the wooden, engraved steering wheel. Beneath it was a sliding door made of glass and polished wood, although the polish was damaged and much of the glass was shattered. Behind the stairways up to the elevated platform were two doors that Sean assumed led to the lower levels.
North led them to one of the doors, opening it to reveal a narrow and steep staircase, lit by dim lanterns. Sean and Felix exchanged glances before following the woman down the steps.
They circled past one level that was full of hammocks and mats spread out along the floor and hung between posts, and entered the second. The smell instantly fried Sean’s sinuses, and he had to hold back a gag. It was full of crates and jars. The jars were full of a thick, black liquid, and he assumed the crates were full of more jars. A few jars were full of various bones, spear heads, and claws. There were intact spears and blades leaning against the crates and posts.
Felix leaned toward Sean, whispering,”I’m regretting this already.”

The Heart of Seraphil: Royal and Ruined-- Chapter 1

Chapter 1
Rotau

The expansive library filled two floors of the palace. Glowing stars and moons hung from the dark ceiling, casting a cool glow over the leatherbound covers. Bronze ladders connected to the tall shelves filled to the brim with volumes. Tables and chairs were strewn about for eager readers.
Not much sound filled the mostly empty room. The only sound came from the voice of Princess Bella, as she chattered out the text from a large book, barely stopping to breathe in between sentences.
¨The War of Acceptance was one of the first major wars between Frendin and Arium. Rising differences in beliefs and conflicts over tradelines built up over time until Frendin declared war on its once sister-country. This one war was the beginning to countless others including The Grain War, The War of Distrust, and Vaylon´s Last Stand. Most orbited around the same central ideas of The War of Acceptance. Of course, there were many other reasons as to why Frendin declared war. It can include the disagreements between the political leaders of each country as well as…”
Rotau fought to keep his mind from wandering elsewhere than the political differences of Frendin and Arium. His sister seemed to be much more interested in it all than he did. Even though both had already been taught countless times of the various wars between the two countries. He was much more interested in the relationships of the Demon Lands and the Human Countries.
He tapped a musical tune he had heard from the previous dance a few weeks ago. The tune was heavy on brass, especially the trumpet. A stead-fast beat and optimistic tune that could lift the soul of any man.
“Rotau?..,”The voice whispered through his head, but he didn’t acknowledge it much, continuing to hum the song.
“Rotau. Were you even listening to me?”The voice played again, and he suddenly snapped out of his wanderings.
Jumping in surprise, he looked across at his sister’s narrowed, deep-brown eyes. Her brown hair was pulled back from her head in a high ponytail with loose hair around her face, a braid cutting off the side of her head.
“Of course I was! I was only reminiscing on the foolishness of the Frendin military in the Battle of Lost Hill! Their formation and approach into battle simply doesn’t make sense against the way the Juah and Arium force usually stationed their own soldiers. We surrounded them easily because they came as a steady side-by-side approach,”Bella opened her mouth to say something, but Rotau continued,”They should have known that the Juah used their majick to approach from all sides. So, instead, they should have gone in a more circular motion, or even approached as a surrounding of their own,¨Rotau repeated what he had learned countless times before.
His sister blinked, furrowing her brows. She placed the book down on the table,¨I suppose you´ve already been informed enough of the military history of Arium and Frendin. Shall we move on to the tradelines and political agreements?¨
Rotau slouched forward in his wooden chair,¨You´ve had me go over this stuff for the past seven years of my life! I´ve been informed of this all enough. Shouldn’t I be focusing more on General Harlan´s techniques and etiquette for the General Army? Or even the threat of the Demon force across our borders?¨
¨The Demon species is too busy with their own problems to even care about whatever we’re doing,¨His sister clarified, pushing back a strand of brown hair.
¨You´ve heard of the Demons crossing through the country land of South Arium? You must have! It’s all anybody has been talking about for the past month!¨
¨That is just a conspiracy, Rotau. People have always been saying that Demons are coming across our border, but it’s never been true. We should be more worried about Frendin,”Bella stood up suddenly, fidgeting with her fingers,”We’ve broken one of the fundamental clauses of the treaty we have with them. We sent some of our own to search for Juah in Frendin. I honestly doubt Quentin will be able to keep his little search quiet for much longer. Before we know it, Queen Adelaide will declare war on us! She’s been threatening it for years!¨
¨I can promise you all!¨Another voice entered the room,¨Queen Adelaide doesn´t have the guts or mind to declare war against us!¨
Bella rolled her eyes, closing the book and placing it on a pile she had gathered on the floor,¨Yes, Mother?¨
Queen Madame Gondola, their mother, strutted through the many bookcases into the small alcove Rotau and Bella were studying in. Her red ball gown sparkled and her brown hair ran down her back. A rather audacious and comical tophat with a crown stood on her head. An orange jewel stood on a tall wooden scepter she grasped with her gloved hand.
¨I wanted to check on you two, you´ve been in here for the past two hours. I was hoping Bella would help me prepare for the meeting we will be holding for the representatives from South Arium. They want to address the matters of Demon sightings across the countryside…,”Mother shook her head,”I don’t want to tell them how foolish it is. There is always the possibility though…”
Bella walked over to her,”I’m quite sure this is nothing. I wouldn’t see why there would suddenly be Demons crossing our borders when they haven’t since…since…,”
“There have never been,”Rotau finished,”But that doesn’t mean they won’t.”
Madame Gondola adjusted her top hat, taking a quick breath,”Like your sister said, I’m sure this is all a misunderstanding. I remember having to deal with South Arium over Demons dozens of times. Every other decade it seems there’s another Demon sighting, but I don’t recall a one that was true.”
His sister nodded in agreement,”Let’s go to your private chambers to discuss, Mother,”She turned to Rotau,”You can just…do nothing foolish. But I think it’s safe to end our studies on history, you’ve proven enough already,”She offered a kind smile, and he returned it with a boastful, yet grateful smirk.
“Well!”Madame Gondola turned on her heel,”I believe we have some important matters to discuss, Bella. Come along now, dear!”
The two disappeared down a row of bookshelves, their quiet conversing fading away.
Rotau stood quickly once he heard the tall doors to the library shut. He waited just a moment before rushing through the columns of novels. Coming to the tall set of wooden double doors, he pulled them open and slipped through into the white stone hallways. Quartz columns held up the roof and every other floor tile gleamed with a silver glow. A few potted plants stood on pedestals throughout the halls.
He dashed down the hall, leftwards, to a tall arched window of paned glass. Old snow piled on the windowsill. He looked down at the courtyard below where he could see General Harlan and a small brigade of soldiers. Excitedly, he rushed down another hallway, reaching a spiral staircase. Taking it upwards, he ran through the maze before reaching a wooden door with a turquoise handle.
Pulling the door open, he entered his bedchambers. The walls were made from a gray stone and a blue rug covered much of the floor. A long loft hung on the entire left side of the wall. Bookshelves covered what was below it, a desk and drawers sat opposite.
Rotau went to the desk, sitting beside it was his sword and scabbard. He attached it to his belt before running back out. He ran through the halls and descended all floors of the castle, coming to the extravagant entry room with a grand double staircase. The grandest chandelier in the country hung above it all. The doors were guarded by a few men, but neither seemed to pay any attention to him as he slipped out of the tall double doors inscribed with blue jewels around a yellow star.
Outside, the air was cool and crisp, usual for North Arium. He was glad the wind was low, and snow wasn’t falling as it seemed to constantly do. The sky was still gray, and only a few rays of sun peeked through.
The courtyard had a tall stone wall surrounding the palace, the only exit was a metal gate that was heavily guarded. The gate was none of Rotau’s concern though.
He slowed his run to a quick walk as he came up to the brigade and General Harlan. They seemed to be preparing for something, all were passing around materials and sharpening blades. He even saw two Juah. Both were females. One was much younger with a boyish pixie cut and a chain belt. The other was taller and older, with fiery red hair and a flower tucked behind her ear. She wore a green dress with a darker blue jacket. Both shared the trademark of the Juah of Arium, yellow stars shone brightly in their eyes. It was rather unnerving, but it was what all Juah had once they made it to the Juah Tower, so he was used to it.
The younger Juah was handing out swords, each shone newly and the craftsmanship looked almost inhuman. The other only stood still, wrapping her coat tightly around herself.
“Come for the excitement, haven’t you?”One of the soldiers, Finch, asked, laughing, his blonde hair shone brighter in the little light that came through the clouds. He sat on a wooden crate.
“What’s happening here? It looks like you’re getting ready for some sort of expedition,”Rotau asked.
“Apparently those Demon rumors everyone’s been talking about. Well, it hasn’t stopped at just South Arium. There’s been some spotted right here in Bellzium,”Finch explained.
“Inside of the city?”
“No! No, of course not,”Finch corrected,”There’s been some fires spotted out on the mountains during the night, a good couple of them, and bright! I’ve heard they’ve been moving closer and closer every night. General Harlan’s taking us out to check them out, maybe get us some Demon hide or something. I´m not frightened though, I´m sure we can take whatever those Demons think they have against us.”
Rotau tilted his head to look over at the two girls,”What’s with the Juah?”
Finch turned to look over at them,”Oh, them? That one there,”He pointed at the boyish one,”She’s some sort of metal worker, she can reform metal just by waving her hands. She made those swords right in front of us out of some old, rusty ones. The other’s an Elementalist of sorts, I think Terra. She’s here to help us out on the expo.”
“Prince Rotau, may I ask just what you may be doing out here at this time?”General Harlan’s voice said from behind Rotau.
He turned to meet the General, who’s face seemed to be carved from rock,”Only here to check what all the commotion here is about. Heard you’re here to investigate the mountains over Demon rumors.”
“As a matter of fact, we are. We’re heading out later this afternoon to go on a search. If we don’t find anything within the next week we’re heading back. Hopefully in time to address South Arium and inform them that there isn’t anything to worry about.”
Without thinking, Rotau blurted out,”I can help.”
He heard Finch mutter,”A little desperate there…”
General Harlan only blinked,”I understand your enthusiasm to join us, but you are not ready. You’re still only seventeen, afterall.”
“I’ve been training with your soldiers ever since I was fourteen. Surely that’s enough. Possibly even more than some of your own soldiers here. I’m sure I can be of some help to your brigade.”
“Even if I thought you were old enough, and fully prepared. It is simply too dangerous for me to take you with us. I doubt Queen Madame Gondola would approve of this either. I highly doubt that there are Demons out there, but if there are, I can’t risk your injury.”
“But I-”
“That is my final decision, Prince Rotau. You are still too young, and it is too dangerous. I hope to see you at the South Arium conference,”General Harlan walked away swiftly.
“That was rough…,”Finch commented.
Rotau groaned,”Shut it, Finch. I mean, you’re what, nineteen? And you’ve only had a year and a half of training. I’ve had more than you, and I’m only a year younger than when you started.”
“Hey, I don’t make the rules, and I doubt you’ll be able to change Harlan’s mind, or anyone for that matter. I mean…he did have a bit of a point there, you’re a little young,”He stood, stretching his arms,”Well, if we do actually find any Demons, I’ll be sure to kick some Demon ■■■ for you. See you on the other side!”
“Sure, I’ll see you then…,”Rotau replied, turning to leave him behind. He pulled his hands down over his face.
Instead of heading back to the castle, he followed the wall of the courtyard around and behind the castle. A tall, dark metal fence cut off a large portion of the area. The inside was full of pine trees, bushes, and flowers. The Majick Garden, as it was called. He reached the gate with a small simple handle, lifting it up and pushing it open. It creaked louder than he would have wished, piercing the air.
Inside, he followed a stone paved pathway that curved and twisted through the gardens. There were many flowers that grew in the garden that were usually impossible to have in North Arium. It was Juah Majick that helped them to thrive.
He spotted a tall pine tree that left a small area of hard dirt underneath its branches in a rough circle. He lay down beside it, leaning his head against the dark bark.
His thoughts wandered for a moment. He even found himself tempted to go out into the mountains alone to search, but he quickly beat that down with sense and rationality. Even if he hated being left behind, he wasn’t outright foolish. Although his sister and most of the city probably thought otherwise. He was just so tired of being treated like a child, and being underestimated.
A bit of yellow caught the corner of his eye, and he turned his head to see Bella walking down the path. She stopped when she saw him,”Rotau? What are you doing here?”
Rotau stood, straightening his coat,”Nothing, nothing at all. I think I should be asking the same of you, aren’t you supposed to be with Mother, perfecting plans?”
“I was, but she got caught up with an incident at the Juah Tower. Some sort of experiment gone wrong? I hear a small fire even broke out, but no major damage. The Juah Tower is made to withstand all sorts of outside influence,”Bella laid down next to Rotau, their shoulders rubbing against each other,”And I know exactly why you are here.”
He rolled his eyes,”Sure, what is it then?”
“You’re sulking about not getting to go on the Demon search with General Harlan,”Bella stated, proudly.
He scoffed,”I am not sulking!”
She poked him on the side of his face,”It sure looked like it to me. Besides, you would need permission from Mother, and-”
“She wouldn’t approve,”Rotau finished the sentence for her,”I know, that’s exactly what General Harlan told me.”
“And he is absolutely correct. You’re not even the minimum age to go on that sort of thing either! Settle down your excitement, Rotau! You’re way in over your head!”Bella exclaimed.
“You don’t understand Bella…,”He told her, looking away.
She sighed, looking up at the gray sky through the needle-infested branches,”We only want what’s best for you, Rotau. I’m sure when you’re eighteen General Harlan will allow you to join them, he only wants to keep you safe, you’re the prince, afterall. Although…I’ll still be worried.”
He laughed a little,”Worried? Why would you be worried about me? I’ve been training for three years! You’ve seen me with a sword, I can take care of myself!”
Bella joined in with his soft laughter,”You’re probably right. It’s just an older sister’s instinct, I guess…”
“You worry way too much…”
“Oh, stop it!”Bella pushed him playfully. The two fell into a fit of giggles, laughing at their own childishness.
As their laughter slowly died away, Bella began,”Shall we head back to the palace? Or maybe we should go help Mother at the Juah Tower…”
Rotau stood,¨I´ll follow you,¨He held out his hand.
She grasped it firmly, hoisting herself up to a standing position,¨I’m interested to see what sort of trouble the Juah have caused this time.¨
The two laughed softly as they began walking away together, hands grasped for a moment. After a short moment, they released each other’s hands, after it had become awkward once they realized how they looked.
Rotau glanced back over his shoulder a moment when he thought he heard footsteps, and the heavy sound of a body hitting the ground. In the short distance he caught a glimpse of something purple, a humanoid. What stopped him in his tracks was the two bent and twisted horns he noticed atop the figure´s head.
¨Rotau? What is it?¨Bella turned, but the figure had disappeared behind some brush.
¨Give me a moment, Bella,¨Rotau shot off at a run, following the direction he had seen the figure go. He pushed through the line of bramble and bushes, catching sight of what was most definitely a human figure, but with horns and short, purple hair. A purple cloak was wrapped around its shoulders.
Despite Bella´s confused shouts, Rotau rushed ahead, hoping to catch up with the Demon, however fast and agile it was. He nearly tripped over a log that the Demon had gracefully leaped over.
Their chase brought them past pine trees, flower bushes, and brush as tall as a small tree, eventually leading to the tall stone wall that circled the palace. Bramble and vines covered the wall, and the Demon reached up at them, climbing, although much slower than its run had been.
Rotau bounded, hoping to extend his rushed steps to reach the Demon before it disappeared. Once he was close enough, he jumped and grabbed hold of the Demon´s ankle, just above a muddy, leather shoe. The Demon grunted, kicking at Rotau, but missing rather horribly.
He heard Bella coming into the small clearing by the wall. Her shouts turned into frightened screams, loud enough to alert anyone nearby.
As Rotau put his boots against the stone wall to give him some leverage against the Demon, it finally got a hit to his face, although it lost its grip the same moment. The two tumbled onto the ground, the Demon on top.
Rotau looked up at the Demon, its eyes were a deep purple and its face a light tan, a scowl on its face.
With the upper hand, the Demon used its knees to pin down Rotau’s arms as it grabbed his throat with its clawed hands. He kicked up at the Demon, nailing it in the stomach. It recoiled, snarling.
Bella appeared suddenly,”Get off of him!”
She swiped a punch at the Demon’s jaw, who grunted loudly, swearing. Rotau felt his eyes widen at his sister’s sudden show of violence and strength. The Demon reached behind his cloak with a quick motion and unsheathed a golden sword with a ruby hilt. The edge was dramatically serrated.
“Get back!”The Demon pointed the sword at them, both hands on the handle.
Rotau unsheathed his sword without a second’s thought,”You first.”
“Both of you stop, right now!”Bella yelled, trying to calm the situation, going as far as to put herself between the two.
The Demon seized her arm, yanking her toward her. It brought the sword to her neck,”Don’t try anything, or she dies!”
She tried to scream but the Demon clamped a clawed over her mouth, stifling it. Rotau froze, unsure of how to approach this. The two stood at a stalemate, the Demon slowly stepping back.
In a quick moment, Bella stamped her heeled foot on the Demon’s toes, and even clamped her teeth down on the Demon’s arm. The Demon yowled, his grip loosening in time for Bella to turn and punch it square in the face. It was hard enough to knock the Demon onto its back. A spurt of blood leaked from its mouth.
Surprisingly, vines shot out of the ground, wrapping around the Demon and holding him in place. Bella and Rotau took a few steps back, looking over at the brush where the two Juah had stepped out from, followed by General Harlan and a few of his men, including Finch.
He could see their eyes all collectively widen, a few mouths gaping open in utter disbelief at the scene before them.
The Juah with red hair held her hands above her head, fingers posed out as if to strike. She must have been the one controlling the vines, Finch had said she was an Elementalist.
As the group of soldiers and Juah slowly came forward, the Demon snarled, snapping through the vines around it which it had probably torn through with its claws. It sprinted off in the opposite direction, but didn’t make it far as a vine sprouted out from the ground, tripping it. The boyish Juah sprinted up, surprisingly fast, a long chain link in her hands. She wrapped it around the Demon’s arms, holding him in place. With one hand on the chains, she took out a hammer and knocked the bottom end on its head, and its unconscious body fell to the ground.
Finch came up beside Rotau, gaping,”I’ll be damned. Demons really are in Arium.”

"I pity who you once were
Blinded by rage and grief
And of course
Fear

You struck out fiercely
Aided a slaughter of a people
You killed the one you blamed
For everything

And now you lay alone
Forgotten
If only you could redo everything

Maybe then she would be better
You could see her as she once was
Again."
