Since it’s 2D, it’s almost impossible to implement the fear of the player experiencing it firsthand. Since First Person horror games present you playing as the victim, it gives it more realism and puts more fear into the player. Since a 2D engine can’t give off that kind of fear, try limited story telling or very disturbing details such as exploiting phobias and imagery.
Like the Fnaf mini games were a good example as although it seems simple at first, but have a very dark meaning in the background.
None of my games currently I would claim to being scary, but the fact of dying and having to restart.
But it’s very possible to make a 2D game scary.
You could attempt a Fnaf based game that a few others have also done, where it’s viewed as first person, but it’s still in a 2D engine. But using jumpscares and loud noises are so overused, you want to do something unique.
Like on Algiophobia, I used the technique that the player never knows where the monster is at and can follow you into rooms if he sees you, so you want to be sneaky alongside being aware of where the monster is.
But it mostly all depends on what type of game you want to pursue.
I agree with the majority of what @CodeAlpaca says. The use of all caps and headers is disillusioning and annoying. However, this is the third time something like this has happened. You cannot just spam flag someone, especially on the OTC, for something you don’t like. That’s messed up, it’s caused huge headaches for both JR And Grazer in the past, and yes I am calling all of you out.
You are behaving like children. @ItzBlob , @DWgamemaster_2 and the rest of you, if it’s bothering people, don’t do it. I like all of you and enjoy your conversations, but posting 200+ bold header messages every few hours is more than a lot. @CodeAlpaca, @DinoDev and the rest of you, you can’t just flag them because you disagree with what they’re doing. If they’re doing that on your thread, go ahead and flag em. I will even support that. However, this is the OTC. People either go here to be silly or to have random conversations. Most people on here are under 13, and you can’t expect them to behave like us. Show some grace.
Now, I’d like all of us to get along, so I’m going to ask for no heated responses or even agreements of this post. Simply read, like if you want, and move on. If you need to talk more about it, DM me please. I’m always open to conversation. Thank you for helping me keep the peace.
We understand what you’re saying and I partially agree. The forums is a place for everyone, which is why we are taking action. It’s not happening just in the OTC, that’s the problem. You’re not the head of the forums, just the guardian of the OTC, so any problems that affect the whole of the forums can be addressed here like we did so. We sent the messages here specifically because the users we wanted to reach are active here.
Thank you,
DinoDev
P.S.
yes, we can flag them on our topics, but it happens so often that if we flag everything our own topics will get shut down! The status of the forums are not what they used to be, and most regular users agreed with us on the discord.
It basically introduced a lot of mystery and unpredictability in the beginning that made the entire game world unique and terrifying.
Plus the player only had a single arm to maneuver and attack, forcing the player to get creative and quick with their decisions when monsters attack. Which causes the adrenaline to start, making the game a thrill.
A group of at least 3 spam flagged DW on the OTC enough to get his messages removed and his account suspended. Whoever did has not only offended him, but made me very upset. I will not put up with this.
