How to make an Inventory menu

I want to make an inventory menu that is accessible through the user interface layer. The part I am working on right now involves two separate counters on the same menu. One is to count points and the other is to count the number of Items obtained. The inventory screen appears when you press the “I” key and disappears likewise. The trouble I am having is getting the counters to appear and disappear with the inventory screen when you press the “I” Key.

Any suggestions will be helpful.
