PROJECT GRPG - Devlog

I swear to god this isn’t undertale

I think I’ll tell everyone my goals for this project, so you’ll have a general idea of where to put your expectations (if any)

I’m currently aiming to get out a demo with at least 20-30 minutes of gameplay.
I’m aiming to have most integral mechanics completely fleshed out and final by the release of said demo.

I want to release consistent devlogs and updates.

That’s about it.

This is a very rough and early version of an ingame battle scene - as of now, literally all the sprites are outdated and will be changed.

that’s all for now. I hope I do something with this. and I really hope it’ll be fun for you all.

oh, and if you’re wondering why i’m not making a discord devlog…
i’m saving that for when i have something presentable.

(the g in grpg is supposed to be my name)
(or maybe it’s a new genre)

(…)
(garpg)
(like garfield)

(whatever, then, it’s a placeholder anyways…)

Please feel free to ask questions. infact, I… implore you ask questions.

bye

this has come a long way from that last post.

not only am i working on a new grid based, more cooler yet heavily conceptual and still work in progress battle system (this is a mockup)
i’d like to go with this system as it really does provide a lot more room for creativity in terms of mechanics and gameplay unlike the basic run of the mill thing i had going before.

I’ve also added new sprites, and overall improved my art. new characters are also here!

first, let me show off the new art for where the main area of the demo will be situated.

this area is vast and empty. it’s full of clovers, massive ones unlike anything you’ve seen before. a strange breeze passes by. suddenly, you feel watched.

okay that was a bit dramatic but you get the point ominous green area it’s like ireland if the irish and their land were real. note that a lot of environment sprites are reused. don’t worry- it’s just placeholder.

new characters. hm. i did have a really awesome ■■■ character sheet i made but i lost it. although i do have this a few sprites of this chap

i do think a lot of it is inconsistent actually and is due for a change, but if you really think the difference is notable enough consider the middle sprite here the “true” way he’s supposed to look, whatever that means.

so, yeah… let me know what you think, reader. i’ll try to update this more. i think that would be greatly appreciated. this project doesn’t have an official name yet. when that comes i think you should really expect this to come to fruition.

i think the name of a game really has to mean something. it has to be unique, carry the vibe of the game, and also be something to do with it’s story.

i don’t want to name my game “story of the grass of the kindred” or something. that’s lame. this game has no concrete story yet. all i have planned (in my head, mind you.) is gameplay and a basic beginning to introduce the gameplay and maybe also introduce a character.

i think that’s all i have to say for now. thanks for reading, or sticking by if you’re a returning reader. i really appreciate comments- even if it’s just you telling me the game is cool or something as it really motivates me and makes me feel like this is worth spending my free time on, although if you do comment i would prefer criticism or questions on the game.

so yeah. comment to let me know you’re following, flowlab void. i’ll return soon enough. if you want to be pinged for updates just ask, i’ll keep that in mind.
