Wow. Dangerous stuff here, XD.
I agree strongly.
this is true. i am saying this as a nintendo fan.
reminder that the sales of games from big game companies don’t go to the developers, they go to the investors (who don’t do anything of worth)
so it’s completely fine to pirate big games, but indie ones are usually more direct
(Nearly a good reply, XD.
I will give you the last like.)
I am, yet again, dying of suspense. The theme could determine everything…
Wait in the flowjam if you have indie you have a huge advandage because other free people can only have 5 levels and stuff
well it’s not that big of an advantage… A lot of games can be built within those limits, and furthermore, in a jam, you only have 2 weeks so you’re not going to be building an entire metroidvania. But I see your point.
I suggest reading this post by CodeAlpaca
I got fourth place with free edition so it’s technically possible. But I don’t really credit myself as not a lot of people really participated that year and my submission (at least for me) was terrible and the ending wasn’t even finished when I submitted). Plus there’s many different ways of reusing existing objects and you can create entire games under the limit. Heck, JR01 made an entire game using one object. I made a game using only labels, but it technically doesn’t count since it’s 10 seconds of gameplay.
Most of the users who have indie had a lot of practice and are willing to buy indie to further aid their game development. Some have made games under the limit that surpass anything I could ever make because they put the time and effort into it.
If you do participate, don’t shoot for the prize or first place, but try to make the best game you’ve ever made with your current knowledge. Doing it each flowjam and you’ll be surprised how you’ll grow. The best way to go about it is to not compare yourself to others, but grow yourself.
The flowjam is kind of unfair in a lot of different categories as some users have the luxury to take entire weeks off of work (which was quoted by a past user who claimed to have done) and are able to combine together into teams because of each other’s own reputation.
As myself for example, I could easily strive for top 10 if I had the time to participate. I usually have to juggle work alongside helping my own grandpa in the meantime so I’m very limited. My last couple submissions were terrible and unfinished because of such, but it gave me the motivation to try different mechanics and game concepts I never planned on doing, but it helps find what type of game you enjoy making the most and you’ll end up finding designs or concepts you’ll like making over what you do now. So it’s not necessary for the prize, it’s just motivation to help yourself grow.
Whenever someone says something like this, I love to point out this game. It’s entirely made with Free Flowlab and is my personal favorite game for that jam. Like a lot of what Maniac and what BradenS linked, it comes down to someone’s skill level and dedication they’re willing to put in, and typically better users just happen to have indie. And my first few jams I didn’t think I’d win, I hoped for a good placement, but besides that it is such a great learning experience. In a jam you learn what would other times take months to do just because of the amount of time you put in during such a small period of time
I’m even trying to make an entire game that doesn’t even use sprites, lol. But I’m not sure how far I can really reach with that idea. I’ve made a 10 second puzzle game, but the possibility of a dungeon crawler or a full on game is a goal.
24 hours till Flowjam!
Cant wait to totally win a steam deck
I will test my Flowlab Skills. I wish it started today, I don’t have much time on Monday.
I’m honestly really excited for this. I think I’ve decided to join the flowjam. I’ve never been in one and am really excited to test my skills and just experience something new.
Yes, that is the main reason I will join too. I will not win, I know.
No one’s going to win over him, that is a fact.
That’s the spirit!
Facts.
Whooooo, optimism at its finest!
