I’ve been thinking of making them more zombie-like, like the Last of Us type zombies

Anyway, the way the fungi changed living beings was by flooding their body with poisonous fluids, then using the corpse as a host, soon the corpse and the fungi would merge into one. In order to survive, the merged corpse and fungi body would quickly adapt to it’s environment, thus why Smigglorbs live on the mountains (to traverse areas easily) and also give a reason for enemies to be where they are when you first encounter them.
I was thinking maybe some fungi couldn’t adapt correctly resulting in the merged body looking like a rotten corpse with mushrooms on it (last of us like I said)
This is because since the body hasn’t changed yet, it is still decomposing, with the fungi in it

also I really like things like how Subnautica has Dead Zones, where instead of a stupid barrier stopping you from going out of bounds, it’s some weirdass monster that instakills you the moment you pass that line
