It takes a lot of practice to get anywhere, but if you put the effort in, and enjoy it, you’ll notice steady improvement. Just keep working on projects and you’ll always get better in different areas. And of course, you also need good ideas that excite you to create a game. No point in making a game you hate. The planning part of a game is important as it sets the direction of the rest of your time on the project. Coming up with a good game is subjective and incredibly difficult. Just keep trying your best, and you’ll get there
