Rumble Spire Devlog up to them and your experience with flowlab.

Let’s do this on a different topic if you want to keep going.

Unfortunately unless you have a discord account and are good at making high quality music, I can’t bring you onto this specific project. I think that if you can prove you can make great games on flowlab, you could work with us someday  .

im never working for this team…

Why would you say that about yourself? Everyone has the capacity to improve at something if they dedicate themselves to it. Also, I’m not really even taking applicants or trying to bring anyone on board rn, because that would mean paying them, and I do not have the funds right now to get something like that going. (and I’m not asking people to work for me w no compensation bc that’s child labor and child labor is bad)

You’re paying us in :sparkles: exposure :sparkles:

If the child labor is for fun, then it’s good.

:nut_and_bolt: Sunday Devlog 3: Integration

Welcome back! This week, work has been going smoothly on backgrounds and a lot of ideating has been done. Here’s what’s been happening last week!

Parse-O-Rhythm

I’m very excited about what’s been going on, so I’m putting this chapter at the top for a change (and probably for the future too).

You may remember the scrolling blue object demo at the end of the last dev log. The code that was built for it was implemented into two background objects for the main game. After spending a good few hours figuring out how to make it move properly, the new background is in progress! Here’s a screenshot of it:

All of the work is finally showing up on the surface!

Let’s break this background down a bit:

  • The city-ish scape on the top and bottom is made up of buildings connected by wires. I did this to try and convey that you are editing company files. This is the part that scrolls infinitely, and it scrolls on two different directions for the top and bottom.
  • The square in the middle is a spinning disc to add to the motion. The outermost outline (the one that blends with part of the background) is a bit thin due to a bug, but said bug is going to be patched by Grazer soon.
  • The darker rectangle behind the disc is just to add a bit of depth to the scene. It will also be used to help show another visual element down the line.

There are going to be more background additions and they will all be ready by devlog 4, but I would like to keep them a secret for now. Playing intense levels like Halcyon already feels way more energetic, so I’m really excited to hit the finished result soon!!

Aside from that, we’ve been discussing the design of Parse-O-Rhythm on the…

Discord server

Over on the discord, we’ve been discussing ways we could potentially restructure the scoring system. In short, a vote is being held (and is still happening as this is posted) on whether the game should punish air-slashing, meaning swinging the sword freely without hitting anything.

There are arguments to be made by both sides of the debate, and completely new ideas have also shown up as ways to fix the issue. There’s a lot to be said in the debate, and a bit too much for a devlog like this, so you can venture to the discord server if you’re oh-so-curious about it.

People have overwhelmingly voted to keep the air-slashing punishment, which was a bit surprising to me.

Unrelated

I was also a bit busy this week for another reason. I decided to participate in a multiplayer tournament in the spaceship building game Cosmoteer, and built an entire ship for it. It took double the time it took to paint it vs actually building the functional ship, but it was a fun experience and I wanted to add it here lol.

“Payload”, a ship that launches nuclear torpedoes, by me, 2024

The roadmap

Last, but certainly not least, I have made a roadmap that illustrates our development plan for this summer! It’s been a long time coming making this and it feels pretty cool making a visual map of the things that will be done to finish the game. Woo!

Hopefully online classes and the Flowjam don’t derail it too much…

Anyway, that’s all for this devlog! I have only a few very short and small tasks on my plate, both online and IRL next week, so expect an even bigger dev log talking about Parse’s changes! I’m looking forward to it a lot  .

Don’t make it too detailed, or it might be harder (for me at least) to concentrate.

There will be a setting to mute the background contrast all the way to there being no background!

this makes me wonder how people that upload crappy granny rip-offs to the app store even bother to do it in the first place.

Well, the difficulty of launching an app on a platform doesn’t really change depending on the quality of what you are uploading. what DOES affect the difficulty is certain features your app may have, like IAPs, data collection, game center utilization, etc.

Truthfully it takes only a couple hours of labor to fully launch something on most platforms, and the reason it takes multiple days is actually because of reviewers and verifiers on the storefront’s end.

How can I make my own music? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m very good at art o.k at coding o.k at music. :grinning:
