I mean, technically not correct but I understand your view. If done properly, text lists makes the code 10x more effective and flexible while looking 4x better (and is actually much easier to code).

Hello again, this is Crigence, lead programmer, game designer, item icon artist and occasional sound-designer (more on that later) for Blue Sky.

To be honest: The last post of this kind didn’t quite get the attention nor the reception I expected, which to be fair I should have predicted given the cirumstances. Oh well, Cri-Text Engine wasn’t the only system I’ve made for the game. Case in-point: I’d like to introduce you to the inventory system!

Since I already learned that unscripted technical descriptions and elaborate demonstrations are ineffective, let’s try something different: The following is a commentary-less display of a mostly finished inventory system being shown off in a short yet revealing ‘teaser’ that you can watch below. Keep in mind that everything in this video is still subject to change!

This system is one of many systems made within the strict 2 week deadline asked of the Flowjam, and it’s one that I’m particularly happy with, and I sincerely hope you like it as much as I do! You can expect at least 1 more technical teaser to release before Blue Sky’s launch. I hope to see you there!

Hello again, this is Crigence, lead programmer, game designer, item icon artist, sound-designer, and “special effects” artist for Blue Sky.

It seems like everybody really enjoyed the half-technical demonstration, half teaser video syle of my last announcement! WE really appreciate all the positive feedback it received, it means a lot to us! I promised I would post at least one more video prior to the games’ release, and the following is that final video! I called it the “Focus” effect, the defining feature of Blue Sky!

Quick warning, though: The lower portion of this announcement and the video accompanying it spoils some features closer to the end of the game. If you would like to play the game completely blind, as-is recommended, you should simply take my word that it’s an impressive effect and back out now. But if you’re just too excited or apathetic to care: Then click the link below.

The “focus” effect as it’s known mechanically, or the fourth element as it’s known in-universe, is one of the key elements present in Blue Sky. When the protagonist really focuses, he can see into the realm of the dead, sometimes even interacting with them in extreme cases. This is very harsh on the psyche, however, so even using this for 5 minutes can leave aftereffects lasting a long duration. There are others known, but only a few will be displayed in Blue Sky. Eh, personally I’m pretty skeptical about it winning, it’s a point n’ click game so there isn’t really much action, the art is really good tho.

ah yes, all horror games are point and click, also, next door i think only got like top 20(no offense to toddorobot, great game, just not my and most people’s type of game)

i agree, point and clicks can be boring, but this one seems different, it has amazing art as well as hopefully a amazing story, ad in some fun gameplay and you got yourself a winner

It’s releasing today?

Neither @rcreger or I care too much about winning - We’d be extremely pleased with ourselves if we even place top 10. And there’s a little bit more to a game winning a jam than its action, particularly uniqueness, and I think that’s one big advantage Blue Sky will have over the 15th platformer, space shooter, etc. Not that these games are bad, of course, just that there are a lot of them in every jam and it may reduce their impact on the judges
