@kwells I have to say -despite being part of the kyle and sonic game myself- that I agree with @Crigence on this one, the game is pretty messy at the moment, however, due to having worked on a lot of the game I feel obliged to explain some of the things there for you.
This game is a fan-game, and there isnt really any one main character, and the creator decided to introduce some things from other games here too, although I did oppose that myself.
The story is kinda confusing right now, but I managed to summarize it:
Sonic was chasing Metal Sonic who had stolen the chaos emeralds (why he didnt use them to defeat sonic I donāt know, maybe he knows about video game logic). Eventually they went through a portal into the world that Kyle and Jaco call home (kyle is the guy you play as in the beginning and Jaco appears later). Kyle, Jaco, and sonic form a small team to retrieve the chaos emeralds. so they move across the world in a relay fashion, but before kyle can get to sonic, he is intercepted by a monster, after escaping he is confronted by metal sonic, who seems to have already stashed the emeralds somewhere else, or maybe given them to someone? Anyways, Tails comes to Kyleās rescue, and help fight him with his ring blaster. After defeating Metal Sonic, Kyle meets up with sonic, and takes a break while sonic goes off himself, finding this world to be slightly similar to his own, he then runs into Metal Sonic. Knocks him over, and makes him spill the emeralds, they both race for them, but a portal appears that throws Sonic, Metal Sonic, and the emeralds into a space zone. Metal Sonic escapes and sonic has to explore the area to find the chaos emeralds, after finding them he figures out why Metal Sonic ran away, there is a wall of lava appoaching, so Sonic used his new-found speed to escape, in space he confronted Metal Sonic again. After seemingly defeating Metal Sonic, radiation in the area gave MEtal Sonic an overcharge, turning him red, after beating him he had to fight the death egg. Meanwhile, Jaco traveled the rest of the world, inspiring those who were affected by the corruption that came from the portal to help fight it, and to save the world.
3. The 3 fights in the same background is because itās the same place
@āGray Skullā https://flowlab.io/game/view/1186152 You werenāt kidding about it being unfinished! Hereās your review:
+āWhereās the wall!?!ā Okay, a bit of self-deprecating humor is a nice touch!
-āGet To The House, Go To Doorā Why does everything start with a captial letter? Thatās not how you English!
-I slide around instead of walking? Man, A Box has some competition!
-The enviornments are REALLY undetailed! How about some shrubs or trees?
-Why are the hallways SOO long!?!
-Why are the text boxes bossing me around? Shouldnāt you let your players decide what to do next?
This game is, like you said: REALLY unfinished! This is like playing a game in the alpha stages of development, thatās how unfinished this game is! But, this is a REVIEW, so iām still going to have to compare it to other games!
Scores (Scale of 1/5)
Visuals - 2.5 (Un-detailed environments) Sound - 0 (There is none!) Controls - 2.5 Difficulty - 1 (Itās just jumping and walking) Stability - 5
Final Score: 2/5, Itās bad.
Seriously: Can everyone please just wait until your game is at least A GAME before sending it in?
Recommendations:
Keep working on it, it might become something NOT bad someday!
I think that may take away the form of the box, and the icon wont match the logo of the game. But thanks for the suggestion! Iām planning something big for this gameā¦
yeah, just like cthornock said, iāve submitted twice and havenāt been reviewed. please dont feel presuured or rushed to do the review, though!
GalacticoS: https://flowlab.io/game/play/1064094
@soethan1https://flowlab.io/game/play/1064094 I was considering using the Angry Video Game Nerd style for this reviewā¦
+The brightness test is actually a neat idea (Despite it being largely unnessacary)
+The graphics are actually pretty nice!
+You created 4 different planets for this game and one is named New Chicago? Nice!
+The spaceship controls are actually pretty good!
+The opening doors are actually kind of neat!
+A JET PACK!?! Sweet!
+The story is⦠Fine, itās FAR from a rcreger quality story but itās fine.
+Okay, that switch thing is actually clever!
+The boost pad is actually pretty cool!
-The resolution is too small! I shouldnāt have to zoom in, just make the game bigger!
-āIt is reccomended that you zoom in your computer screenā Say it with me now: THATāS. NOT. HOW. YOU. ENGLISH.
-The premise of the game is original for Flowlab, but for gaming as a whole (Am i the only one who plays REAL games here?) this is essentially just quick-time event the game!
-Did that sign back there say āSpace taintā?
-Itās hard to read some of the text! Put a box behind it!
-I need to go to New Chicago (You DO realize thatās a real place, right?) to get paint!?! WHY?!? I thought we were coding a virus not painting a house!
-No teleportation cut-scene? Cāmon, youāre not restricted to 5 levels like the rest of us!
-Some music would be niceā¦
-A sprint option would be nice!
-This game is straight up boring! Thereās nothing to do other than die and move right!
-Why canāt you put a wall there instead of making walk into the edge of the screen like an idiot?
-The enemies in the sewer section are too unpredictable and hard to avoid! At least in Mario they only walk 1 direction and you KNOW where theyāre gonna go!
-THE JETPACK CONTROLS LIKE GARBAGE. Iād rather be in the spaceship! At least that actually controlled well!
-Why is there a cheerleader tower of enemies in this hallway?
-Seriously, stop spamming enemies and actually design a level for once!
-The vorgon dudes donāt mind⦠The laziness is off the charts!
-Do you have to remind me how to control the character every 5 minutes?
-Also stop spoon-feeding me instructions and show instead of telling for once!
-Annnddd one of the final lines references a meme but with horrible English. Nice.
-This game has 0 sense of direction, one minute youāre playing a boring platformer the next a boring space shooter!
-THE FINAL LEVEL IS ANNOYING.
Iām just going to say it: This game does NOT DESERVE to be on the front page of Flowlab! It has 0 sense of direction, itās EXTREMELY boring, the level design is trash, and the problems just go on and on! @grazer Stop putting games with little to no actual polish on the front page and actually put GOOD GAMES like Starblast 3 and Old Super Mario Bros. up there instead! I know that i shouldnāt be promoting MY game, but at least it has actually GOOD levels!
Scores (Scale of 1/5)
Visuals - 3.5 (A polished turd is still a turd.) Sound - 0 (There is none!) Controls - 2 Difficulty - 1 (Itās just jumping, walking and watching!) Stability - 5
Final Score: 2/5, Itās bad. Insert mic drop here
Recommendations:
Add some challenge and donāt just spam enemies and call it āLevel designā!
I had personally enjoyed @soethan1 's game @Crigence . It showed how you could use visual storytelling through a game (though Iām limited) and I found it interesting. Some things did not make sense, but I donāt think THAT much.
