Bmarzi's Knockout Reviews

Someone like me, who am I? I’m just some guy who likes sprite stacking, it gives it a faux-3D feel. I’m glad to hear you plan to do that for the rest of the game, that’ll look great.

FYI, when I said “slow” I was looking for a nicer way of saying the game gets boring just going around shooting Roombas. There was no lagging or anything like that.

Oh, good! I can make it more fun. Maybe make a mobility game.

I’m my own person lol, that’s just free user shenanigans.

Thanks for the review!

One thing though; the levels are actually quite short. It gets even shorter as you learn the mechanics/level layout and can blaze through levels in under 30 seconds. I should probably add some incentive for replayability.

Do you have a powerful laptop? If so check my game out, it’s a test build as the title says so there’s only a level for a practice race.

Daniel’s Body by @DarkStar_Studios

This game is absolutely amazing! One of the best games I have played on Flowlab! It’s weird, fun, and unlike any other game out there. I like that each level has a different feel and gameplay.

Let’s start with the main menu, I really enjoy the Sega Genesis-style title, but the menu is a bit bland and could use something else… like an “options” or “credits” page. The introduction is both extremely clear as to the point of the game and full of hilarious moments. I did spot a misspelling, it says “the easiest 750,000 dollars I have ever MAD” instead of MADE. But the angel having a cell phone in Heaven is genius. Each level also has it’s own amusing introduction and different HUDs that are very well done.

As for the levels themselves, each one is different and fun, way to go! The pizza level is too hard, it could just be my skill level, but I know others mentioned that as well… there isn’t enough time. The junkyard, dancing, and quiz levels were much easier, but all with their own amazing artwork that is top notch. I couldn’t help but speak in a Michael Jackson voice, which made me laugh. The last level is also hard, but not too hard, I really wanted to beat it but kept getting killed at the last second.

It might be nice, if after you go through the introduction at the gate, if you make each level playable… but add difficulty warnings. (i.e. 1-3 stars, easy to hard, or something like that) This way the player can jump around and play any of the levels whenever they want. I think you can do that without needing to change the story, each level seems self-contained. Just a thought…

Theme: The title artwork and name itself imply a skeleton type of game and that’s what it delivers… and then some. 5/5 stars
Fun: The first level is a little too hard, again, it could be my skill level, but the rest of the game is so much fun. Each level is different, so the game never feels repetitive. 4/5 stars
Artwork/Sound: The artwork is incredible, and each level has its own artwork and music. 5/5 stars
Creativity: There are no other games like this, it is so wonderfully original. 5/5 stars
Overall: There is nothing more to say, this game is awesome! 4.75 stars

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate everything you said and I will definitely work on the things you suggested (I like the level progression idea a lot). I like the main menu suggestion as well, and I’ll see what I can do. Main menu’s tend to be my weakness though so let’s hope for the best lol. I will make level one easier too. That’s something I have tried to fix already so It’s good to know I haven’t taken it far enough yet.
I’m super glad you liked the art. It got mixed reviews during the Flowjam so I was kind of bummed about it.
I did spend every second I could spare making the separate minigame mechanics. The dancing one was by far the hardest and most time consuming, but I learned from it so that’s good.

Anyway, thanks again for the review! These are super helpful to the community and we all appreciate you taking time to play our games.

Invader Blue by @hi4250five

There’s not a whole lot to this game, but it is still fun. It’s a fast-paced space shooter that never stops and is a pretty quick play. The music is nice and intense and fits the game well, however the main menu is missing music. The artwork is simple and classic looking, feels like an old school arcade game.

The main menu is a little bland, although the ever-changing background looks cool, but like the previous game it needs something more… like a “controls” page. Also, a brief explanation as to the different ships and points breakdown would be nice to know. I wasn’t sure how I was getting points.

The game itself is nice, it’s non-stop and easy to play. There’s different enemies which make the game not feel boring, however, there isn’t a lot to do… there needs to be more objectives, perhaps objects to pick up. Also, I’m not sure how points were scored, not sure if it’s time based or enemies you kill or both. Making that clear would help.

The thing this game absolutely needs is a leaderboard, it’s the perfect game for the feature… make it so.

Theme: A simple sci-fi game, no back story, but the game doesn’t really need one. 4/5 stars
Fun: The game is really fun, it’s quick, so restarting and attempting to beat your old score is addicting. 4/5 stars
Artwork/Sound: The artwork is, I assume, intentionally simple to resemble old arcade games. The music is tense and perfect, but the main menu needs some music. 3/5 stars
Creativity: It’s not very creative, but that doesn’t mean it’s not well done. 3/5 stars
Overall: This is a well made game, that needs a few additions to make it feel more complete and offer some guidance for the player. 3.5 stars

Next is Super Blocky Racing All Stars and then Glow

Super Blocky Racing All Stars by @ShadowGaming and @Hong_Jooni_Pooni

This is an awesome MarioKart style game with some Flowlab flare. It’s still very unfinished and raw, but it’s an outstanding start. The AI movement is incredible and the use of FLowlab user names is hilarious. Although there are a few missing, most notably, yours truly…

I’m not going to comment on the main menu or artwork, other than to say, some of the pixels are different sizes. I assume the HUD is not finished yet, but the pixels are too big, and the spinning items you collect are too small… everything should use the same pixel size as the characters. Speaking of the characters, I like the blocky characters. It might be hard, but would look cool if each Flowlab user had their own skin. I like the racetrack, and can’t wait to see the different worlds and backgrounds you create.

Theme: It’s a racing game that includes Flowlab users as the AI, it’s great. 5/5 stars
Fun: The game is simple and easy to play, but the fact that you’re racing keeps you into it. 5/5 stars
Artwork/Sound: To early to actually grade, but I like it all so far and can see where it’s going. 3/5 stars
Creativity: Although it’s a blatant rip off of MarioKart, there aren’t too many racing games on Flowlab that work well, and this one does so far. 4/5 stars
Overall: I really like this game, it’s extremely unfinished, but it’s easy to see what the game could look like. Keep working at it and make sure your menu is as fun as the game itself. 4.25 stars

I appreciate the feedback. I will add you to the roster don’t worry lol. The AI is pretty simple actually. I’m really good at AI so at one point I made them be able to strategize how they want to use their items, make mistakes, and track the other racers. But that required proximity blocks and lots of raycasts so sadly I had to scrap it. I am aware of the mixels and I did plan to try and fix it, but I can say that it is a little difficult to stay consistent with them. I’m actually really proud of the difficulty, expert mode is actually kind of hard and I get destroyed by my own cpu’s sometimes…I have created little monsters… I actually planned on making lots of skins that can be obtained like a skin shop, limited modes, and competitions. I have so many themed track ideas it’s going to be very fun just wait. Did you ever get the all-star powerup? If so how did you like it?

So you’re making AI that can think? Skynet is hiring you’re interested!!!

I don’t think I got that powerup, I’ll play it again and try to look for it.

Yep! Also I never heard of skynet, what is that? It’s the star that you can get from 10th-8th, its like an ultimate ability that makes you fly across the track and spam O to shoot projectiles.
