Keep in mind that you don’t always need to draw realistically. Depending on your intentions with the art. Sometimes drawing accurately is good, sometimes you might want to be more stylized and less true to reality.
If the character wearing the shoe is very stylized, you might not need to make the shoes realistic. Or maybe you do. It depends on what you want to achieve with your art.
I decided to make a new, larger one for you to critique:
I also drew another image I’d like you to critique (this one’s a bit darker):
How to shade and draw crinkle in fabric?
Here’s a flag i drew for reference (Don’t pay attention to those random legs. I was just sketching):
Yeah it do be like that.
House Andromeda
Wow, that’s really great!
@glowbug @Baron_Wasteland, he’s giving you guys a run for your money…
Not literally, considering Baron is actually doing digital art as his job…
you’d like to think that, wouldn’t you
Baron will always be the best, obviously. There’s nothing you can do about it :)
looks neat! nice colors you’re using. I’d suggest make the whole piece more consistent, as it’s vert clear that the house itself is very geometrical and all angles while everything else is vaguely freehanded. Also that purple flag kinda stands out in a bad way, you can change the color of it to still be purple, but maybe a purple that works better with the rest of the palette. looks real good tho!
okay! for the first one, it looks pretty neat, you have some decent ambient occlusion shading going on. you might want to get the body proportions of those statues right, the hips are a little low and those shoulders look like they don’t obey the movement of the arms. (again! to everyone! look up references when you need to draw something correctly! don’t try to be jim jung gi!) You might not be finished with that part yet, but the inside of the building itself is quite empty, it leaves a little too much empty space, in terms of composition. might wanna put something in there.
for the second one, I appreciate the use of dithering, it’s a neat attenpt. on the left side of the house, you don’t need to do rim lighting for those highlights, the shading doesn’t always convey the volume of the house, which is the main purpose of shading. if you want to give yourself an extra bit of a challenge, you can try using the different shades to show the texture of the house (planks if it’s made of wood etc.). I’ll say that you chose some nice colors and I really appreciate the shading on the windows and door, that’s a real nice touch!
overall, it all looks quite decent, I’d say!
Hope this was helpful to you (:
false, and also this isn’t a Baron fan club page
Yeah… I lied, I’m actually the best B-)
well, I don’t often draw cloth, but you need to picture how the fabric is being pulled, by the pole and by the wind, and picture how that makes the cloth fold over itself. cloth is a lot of folding and pulling. there are going to be lines indicating where it’s being pulled and folds all over the place.
when in doubt, there are a ton of guides lying around pinterest, you’d be able to find a clearer visual guide there
Thanks for your input on my last drawings! I got two more for you:
USS Dragonfly
Just so you know, it’s facing ^^^ way.
USS Deviant
looks alright, aside from the shading, your shading is too tight, which makes it just become noise in pixel art. you’re only shading the edges of the ship parts, so I’d use only one shades of grey in the sprite as opposed to the 4 you have currently. also, in terms of color theory, especially when an object is grey, try to make the darker shades a slightly different hue. shadows are usually colder, so make the darker shade a little bit blueish, it’ll do wonders, believe me.
hope that was helpful (:
What do you think of this? Is there anything I should improve?
Try making the arms closer to the body, to make it natural.
