Potential flowlab GOTY voting event

there’ll be two rounds of voting - the first is a multiple choice (choose as many as you want) vote of the top 9 games from the last 2 jams, plus any games featured this year (only galacdrive in this case sadly).

After that, a final 6-option vote comprised of the top 6 from the first vote will be another multiple choice vote, and whoever gets the most votes wins.

An idea on top of that: unfinished and finished games are separate categories. may not work though because lots of games are unfinished lol

You’ll be putting together a list of the last 110 or so games in the last two FlowJams?!

I think there are a lot of great games that came out but werent featured.
And we dont even know about them

He’s only taking the top 9 games of the previous 2 jams. (+ any other non jam featured games)
I could see this becoming a really fun annual event

Oh definitely, but they didn’t get featured. It’s sort of impossible to scrape the site for games if the developer(s) never really stood up to talk about them imo. The featured category lets things be narrowed down but if you have a better method then by all means present it

Just sharing my opinion
What about Misty Hollow :jack_o_lantern::fire:

Isn’t this for the games released during the last two FlowJams?

Who will be in charge of everything for this event? Since I assume it’s not official (yet)

Can I contribute too in some way? I just had an idea where I either make a presentation video in a sort of Oscars style format, or just be the host and work with whoever else makes the video (or both). I got this idea inspired by the “meme of the year” videos made by grandayyy on YouTube.

if there’s gonna be a video. If I were to make it, I would make it appropriate for all ages so that anyone can be able to watch it [on the forums]. In regards to memes, I’d minimize them, keep them fresh and recognizable, and remove them altogether if asked.

I think Sup3r87 is in charge.

Yeah, I think so too. I do wonder though how this will be organized and who else is participating :man_shrugging:

no need to help. I’m fine running the event, especially since this upcoming week I will be at essentially negative levels of business. If everyone is cool with it, the first round of voting will start sometime
this saturday
, and continue for a few days before the second round starts.

Okay, that sounds cool. If possible though, I think the idea of a video for the Flowlab Game of the Year (FGOTY?) would be very exciting and feel more special than just a forum poll. Seeing all the games like that could even bring more users to Flowlab to make games after being inspired by all the really good ones in the video. But that’s just an idea, and it would have to come after the voting is done.

Sorry for rambling, I’m just so excited for this! Also I was inspired by your Flowjam livestreams and the hype and enthusiasm they generated. If everyone is cool with a video for this event, I’d like to collaborate with the organizer(s) to make it.

yeah, a video would definitely be a fun thing, but this is more of a small scale event; no prizes awarded, no board of voters, just (maybe) official recognition from grazer/pixelpizza .
by the way, sorry for not starting voting yet lol. I’ve got finals to do, but I’ll be actually (really) free tomorrow, and round 1 will probably start tonight if I can get through it.

You know, I should probably speedrun all these games anyways, so I could get some clips of the games and put a video together myself (just a simple ranking of 19-1, the scores they got, and the developer). However, maybe not because it’d be nice to have the sounds of the game with the clips rather than just some music. But if I did make it, would kind of go along with my goal of documenting a bunch of Flowlab games (typically in the form of speedruns)

Is Pixel Pizza second in rank to Grazer? -Because there two others of the same rank on the Forums (As Samuel).

PixelPizza has done some of the art for a while for Flowlab I believe, but more recently he does all the awesome social media posts.

Pizza has also made sketches and mockups of the UI layouts for a lot of flowlab’s interfaces, most notably the pixel art editor.
