It’s been four days since the last message, so I figured I would go ahead and message on here just to keep it fresh.
Sadly I haven’t worked on the game like I would have wanted, but I’ve been getting some stuff and concepts done. I started working on an alarm system with a flashing light on it. Also I was starting to work on an inventory system, but I’m still unsure of what items I plan on adding to the game.
I came up with funny entity a while back called vent sharks. Basically what it sounds. It’s just a shark that haunts the vents and jumps out and eats people. As you can tell this was something I made up a while back and it was more of a meme since it wasn’t really a serious idea, just kind of dumb, but I do have some sort of idea from it.
I could add some entity that lurks in the vents and will stare at the player if he’s currently in a vent. But if the player gets to close to the vent or walks down the hallway while theres the entity inside of it, but it will launch its tongue at you and pull you into the vent. Although this entity will definitely be noticeable when you see its teeth through the vent grate, but so far there really isn’t a way to get around them, unless the hallways were some how a loop or there was a different way around them, or you just walk off screen and wait for it to despawn. Since it will change positions.
This might help the idea of a gun since you could shoot at it to get it to change to a different vent without having to die or go somewhere else, but I’m unsure of this idea. This is just a concept, but most likely will be added.
I want the game to feel lonely, but also overwhelming with many different entities on the loose and having to worry about. Like how SCP did in Containment Breach, I want to go for a pretty similar feeling, where you’re completely alone, but also very much not alone.
So far there are only three entities that I know of are gonna be 100% in the game, like Subject: 009, Subject: 007, and Subject: 005. Or the Ceramic Skull, The Antique Table, and The Huechler. I would add more, but I need to think up some game features it would present.
I would do that, but considering how I only have like 10 entities and two of them are still in the making, I would just accept all the entities instead of having a poll for them. Or at least until I have a decent amount.
Now I could host a poll on what entity should be in the game, but maybe not in the actual lore cause the more the better.
I feel like once I get the rest inventory system set and done, the game will easily fall into place quite quickly. Since a majority of the game is just collecting items and keycards to beat the game.
Also I might release a small demo to see how well the controls and door systems feel. And to see if anyone find any bugs and stuff. I’m currently having issues with object display order since I have moveable objects like chairs and janitor carts. I can get them to go behind a wall, but I can’t register a play going behind them while also worrying about a wall so it’ll take a bit to figure that out.
I got the janitor cart somewhat debugged. I had to change the hit box cause it kept sliding up into the wall when it wasn’t supposed to.
Anyway I plan to start working on the inventory and the menu. I might work on the menu before the inventory so I have more time to figure out what items I need to add to it.
So if you have an subject idea that counts as an item then please suggest away. I know I said I wasn’t planning on taking suggestions at the moment, but I think that some items can be an exception since I actually need to figure it out before I get the inventory system going.
So what is an item that can give the player an abnormal ability, or it can be a consumable that heals or gives the player temporary abilities. It can be literally be anything such as a ring or candy bar. I probably won’t add every idea you guys suggest for the sake of having limited objects and I don’t want to have too many items for the inventory to comprehend, but I will add the top 3 suggestions and host a poll for any qualifying ideas. If I get that many.
I might even make one or two myself, but I probably won’t get to it for a bit.
I have an object idea: Realization (that’s the thing’s name). What it does is when you use it, you gain the ability to rapidly punch their opponents with extreme power while standing in place for exactly 27 seconds. During this time, you cannot move, but you are impervious to most or all damage.
That’s a pretty good idea. Although I can’t really think of many entities that youcc be an physically punch. Maybe Subject 002 or something, but he probably won’t be much of a threat in the game since he’ll be mostly passive like the Huechler. The Ceramic Skull is mostly a shadowy liquid substance so your punches would go through him.
This ability might be classified under weapons since you can fight off subjects with it, but I’m not entirely sure what can actually take damage yet or how the system is gonna work. But I do like the idea though.
Yeah, it’s similar to that, but it’s a one time thing, once you look in the room, the shadow is gone and you can still look inside. It’s to hide enemies in rooms you haven’t explored yet.
From my knowledge (I haven’t played any Metal Gear games yet) Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a spinoff of the main Metal Gear Solid games and was released back in 2013. It recently came back as a meme for some reason, and I love it now. I really want to play this game, but my dad says I have to beat Far Cry 6 before I can get any other game. Every single day now I watch several Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance memes. They are so damn funny.
Also ManiacPumpkin, what does GW:5 mean? Game world 5?
What are your guys inputs from on a health system? I was thinking that a simple health bar would be a little cheesy, but it would still work.
What I was thinking would be an anonymous health system. Since most entities just one tap kill you, the only thing a health system would be for is if you got a minor scratch or small wound. I was thinking if you got shot, or attacked by something that doesn’t kill you instantly, you slowly bleed out. (Which you’ll know when you do) and you can use a small or large med kit to heal yourself with, or to stop the bleeding. The same goes for weird affects that you may get which causes you to loose consciousness and then die from them, which not sure how a simple medkit would help against that, but in this game, it does.
What do you think?
